University Partnerships

The Children's Guild enjoys strong partnerships with a number of universities. As a result, The Guild is recognized as a professional development school. Our mission is to provide professional preparation of our staff and to invite inquiry directed at the improvement of our educational practices. These partnerships not only enhance student achievement, but also provide a recruitment avenue for hiring highly qualified personnel.

Types of Partnerships

George Washington University (since 1999):

Graduate teaching interns are immersed in our school culture, our TranZed methodology and become part of the classroom teams. Candidates receive a master certificate in emotionally and behaviorally disturbed. Interns are currently based in Chillum and Baltimore.

Loyola University (since 2008):

Undergraduate education interns observe teachers in our Baltimore campus in both the fall and spring semesters. These interns use this experience to decide whether this is the population of students they would like to work with.

Loyola University (since 2008):

Graduate speech interns work with our speech therapists at the Baltimore campus, providing speech and language therapy. University supervision supports the use of these interns to fulfill IEP-related services.

Stevenson University (since 2009):

Students complete student-teacher requirements toward teaching degree through student-teacher placement for fall/spring semester.

University of Maryland (since 2009):

Social work interns are placed at all of our campuses and the group living academy.

Catholic University (since 2007):

Social work interns are placed at Chillum two days a week.

Goucher College (since 2008):

Graduate interns are placed every semester for speech and language therapy.
