The Children's Guild announced that Sheela Murthy, founder and president of the Murthy Law Firm, will be the recipient of its 2012 Sadie Award, which will be presented at its annual Cabaret for Kids black-tie gala. This event will take place on Saturday, April 14, 2012, at Valley Mansion in Hunt Valley, Md. and proceeds will support the programs and services of The Children’s Guild. Read more...

The Children's Guild named Gladys Graham chief operating officer of charter schools overseeing Monarch Academy, which includes two charter schools, one in Anne Arundel County and one in Baltimore City. BALTIMORE/GLEN BURNIE/CHILLUM, Md.—The Children’s Guild announced at its Cabaret for Kids gala honoring Frank and Janet Kelly that in recognition of the Kelly’s generous donation to the Guild to help children with autism, its new autism center will be called The Janet and Frank Kelly Autism Center at The Children’s Guild. It was also announced that The Children’s Guild has developed an affiliation with the University of North Carolina School of Medicine TEACCH program. TEACCH (Treatment and Education of Autistic and Communication related Handicapped Children) is an evidenced-based service, training, and research program for individuals with autism spectrum disorders. The Children’s Guild Vice President of Children’s Services Steve Howe joined the board of the Foster Family-based Treatment Association (FFTA), an organization of 400 treatment foster care providers in North America established to define and refine Treatment Foster Care practices. Howe will serve on the executive committee of the board as chair of the Council of Chapter Chairs. He has served on the FFTA board and presented at FFTA conferences in the past. Read more...

Families can trick-or-treat this year in a safe, fun festival atmosphere. The Children’s Guild will celebrate Halloween with a free Community Fall Fest Saturday, Oct. 30, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Baltimore campus in the Parkville area of Baltimore (6902 McClean Blvd.). The festival will feature free face painting, trick-or-treating, music and children’s activities, as well as free food including barbecue chicken and salads. Read more...
