On Friday, April 8th the 4th-grade students of The Children’s Guild’s Monarch Academy Annapolis Public Charter school had loads of fun learning about artifacts from the oyster industry and participating in an oyster activity led by Speaker, Bryan Gomes from the Oyster Recovery Partnership.
Mr. Gomes began the class activity by giving each of the 40 students a film canister filled with various pollutants. He then read a story to the students, and as each pollutant was mentioned in the story, the students came up and poured their film canister into a tank with clean water. The purpose of the class activity was to illustrate the central question of “Who polluted the Bay?”
Following the presentation, the 4th-grade students were shown artifacts from the oyster industry as Mr. Gomes pointed out the artifacts contained in the school murals.
It was another great day of interacting and learning at Monarch Academy Annapolis.
