The program’s objectives were to improve parental engagement while guiding participants to recognize and feel good about their natural parenting skills and to learn to identify different factors that are essential to the students educational and social/emotional needs.
The parenting workshop was held at the Children’s Guild PG Campus on Thursday for 4 weeks from 6:00 pm–8:00 pm. The workshop focused on the following topics: resilience, child development, the function of problem behaviors, prevention strategies, reading an IEP, and community resources. Each week dinner and childcare was provided. At the completion of the workshop, each parent received a certificate of completion, a gift card and a vision board with goals the parent set for their child. Twelve parents participated in the workshop and provided feedback requesting for more opportunities for the parents to get together during the school year.
The Facilitators for the workshop were Natashia Rhoden (Clinician) and Olivia Hird (Behavior Coordinator) with guest speakers; Desiree Davis and Demetria Crawford. Both facilitators development the curriculum for the workshop.
